An eleven (11) year prostate cancer survivor, Jim presently serves as a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the Oncological Drug Advisory Committee (ODAC), and as a Patient Representative for Prostate Cancer Issues. He also serves as Chairman of the Malcolm Grow Hospigtal Prostate Cancer support group, located at Andrews AFB, continuously since 1993. He is active in a variety of civic and community support organizations which include his appointment as a member of the Board of Elections for Charles County, as well as Chairman of the Finance Council for Sacred Heart Parish in La Plata, Maryland. Not the least of his time is spent happily as the father of seven, grandfather of 14 and husband to Mary for 48 years.

He retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Colonel in August 1984.
